Pocket Fritz 3 uses Hiarcs!! and gets a GM Norm :)

Post by William Hulme »

PocketFritz 3 is the ultimate mobile chess companion, ready to play anywhere and anytime. It may be small in size, but its playing strength is gigantic. Its brand-new chess engine, developed by Mark Uniacke, has a well-balanced positional style with fi rst-class tactical strength. PocketFritz 3 is considerably stronger than its predecessor – the estimated playing strength is 2550 Elo!

Hi,
Starts to make you wonder if Chessbase will produce there own engines anymore lol .... I mean with Rybka now on sale from CB and HIARCS now as pocket fritz 3 .... Starts to beg the question will DF 11 get released and will there be a F12?

No doubt about that.

Perhaps Fritz 12 will be a personality of Hiarcs 13.

Pocket Fritz is currently playing in South America http://www.chessbase.com/espanola/newsd ... sp?id=6216

Perhaps one of our Spanish speakers can give us a brief idea of the story in English?

I couldn't find more info in these pages, other than Stanislav Tsukrov being Pocket Fritz 3 operator, that IM Sandro Mareco lost against it with an "excellent sacrifice but wasn't able to continue accurately", and that Pocket Fritz 3 beat GM Sergio Slipak "perfectly."

There's no mention of Hiarcs powering Pocket Fritz.

I meant that they should state so, otherwise most people are going to think that it's the Fritz engine doing the job.

I have spoken to Fernando who does the CB Spanish page. He will mention in today's update that the engine is by Mark. I have also asked if he can get me all the PF3 games from the tournament.

I would imagine that the 2550 rating is the absolute minimum and CB have to mention it.Probably if you ran it on a Compaq 3660 from 2000 it would be that strong. But if ran on a more modern PPC which are much faster I would expect at least 2750.
I don't care what name CB come up with, as it is up to them. They obviously know that the "Fritz" name is more markertable.I bought PF2 many years ago and was well aware that it was the Shredder engine and it even states this fact on the CD rom case.
I am glad to see that this is happening and will purchase shortly after seeing the standard of play in the Spanish tournament. So far it has got 2/2 with some impressive play.

Where? Just where?

This is news to me! In fact, in the lower left corner of the cd case mine says "Fritz by Chessbase". I purchased mine late 2002 (or there abouts). So this is really Shredder? No biggy to me, but I believe in "giving credit where credit is due."

Will PF3 come with the large Hiarcs opening book? I've exported the Shredder 10 & 11 books onto my PPC for PF2 which makes a difference......

Will the protocols for engine interfaces be released to the general public so that other engine authors can compile for it if they want?
