Mephisto Atlanta on ebay

I was going to bid on this thing, but the dust cover was missing. I hope
I'm right that there is in fact a dust cover that comes with the Atlanta, the
same as the Berlin Pro? I asked on another forum and one of the members
emphatically said there was. I don't mind paying good money, but when
the seller claims 'complete', then it must be, otherwise the investment
value has been shot. The pieces looked a bit suspect, too. And no adaptor.
I'll just have to be patient. Looking on chess comp history on ebay, there
must have been quite a few Atlanta's made. Seems no shortage of them,
so I'll wait for another one.
regards
Larry

???
i would not pay so much for an atlanta.
it has a stupid frans morsch program into it.
100 euro or 120 euro would be the maximum i would pay.
and 80 as the maximum for the milano-pro or master.
whatever. its the decision of the people who pay so much.
IMO they behave a little childish

I didn't know that a complete Atlanta set was that hard to find. Mine is complete but then again I did buy it from new!!
It even comes with a piece bag and original pieces. Why the dust cover is missing with many of them is a mystery to me, i mean it isn't so small that you could lose it down the back of the sofa! I have to disagree with the comment that the Franz Morsch porgramme is stupid. I think it plays a very agressive and entertaining game, definetely exciting to watch
Best regards

This is the text with the Atlanta in Wiki rating list:(translated with babel)
"The Atlanta is actually a "Fritz" in the board, i.e. its style is very strongly tactically coined/shaped. For it there is only one direction in the play - attack. If he came only into travel, even devices have like the R30 so their problems. The large weak point however is the final game. If no points of attack in the portion are, them in positional courses run, become it heavily for the Atlanta. It can calculate many knowledge gaps however if pure final game knowledge is in demand, fails it frequently quite pitifully."
So it attacks like a bull at a gate, but when the attack falls over, it
does'nt have a plan 'B' to fall back on, ie, it is not programmed to go
into 'draw' mode. This is probably why the Berlin Pro with it's Lang
program scores the extra rating points. More attention to the endgame.
London Pro regards
Larry

I like the Atlanta it is capable of beating pretty much every dedicated chess computer out there on its day. It may have a few weaknesses in the endgame but other then the Resurrections (maybe), I really cannot think of any dedicated machines that really shine in this area anyway. And yes the Atlanta does have a knack for beating an R30 in 30 sec/move tournaments.

My friend had one of these Atlanta's and I told him he was better off using a Pocket PC with a decent engine loaded. To prove my point I played a 30/30 game with my basic PPC loaded with Fruit 2.1 engine and had the PPC play black. To my embarrasment the Atlanta won and I remember looking at the evaluations of both computers and could see that both were saying Black was losing and was hoping the Atlanta would somehow slip up.But the PPC got revenge in the next 2 games. And my friend ended up selling his Atlanta for a miserable $125 New Zealand which is about $100 US.
