Yes Nick there is

look at the top right hand corner of your post and you will see an Edit button
however you only have 30 minutes since you made the post to edit it ..then the button is no longer active

as to the .info online tournament performance rating for the Atlanta/Magellan
way too high i think for the Atlanta's true strength
but i imagine the games are played at "active chess" time controls so perhaps this is closer to an active rating for the Atlanta

you .info boys show the 40/2 rating for the Atlanta at 2195 after 563 games and that is a tad too low i think

now Selective Search shows 2224 which i think is just about right
the last time Hallsworth published the number of games used in the rating for the Atlanta/Magellan it was something like 985 games or close to that

Hi Nick,
spacious_mind wrote: Since I really do not think that any dedicated chess computers are exceptional in endgames, I do not see how Atlanta is that much worse then any of the other top dedicated computers in this area.
To my experience, the Atlanta lacks some endgame knowledge, but its hash-tables often overcome this; i had some games, where it could easily withstand strong Lang computers (which are famous for their endgame capabilities)

For me the Atlanta is a very desirable computer (i don't want to miss it)

Steve:
I put this together based on purely the score results from Schachinfo Online WM 1, 2 and 3. So this is the Tournament score based on its successes in this tournament. The intent is to show you who Atlanta is rubbing shoulders with in these 3 tournaments. Within these 3 Tournaments played online that is Atlanta's performance 5th out of 59 and that is the ELO inside these 3 tournaments. Atlanta's average oppnent ELO is amongst the highest on this list and 81 games is the most played. This tells me that Atlanta likes to slug it out.

I know his 81 game WM perfomance is about 50 ELO higher then his Aktivlist ELO. But then again I know the conditions Atlanta played under in the WM. So it is not that far off.

PS Steve, the edit function only works so long as you stay logged on. If you log off then realise you need to edit the post and log in again you cannot do this or at least I could not yesterday.

This thread is about collecting/buying dedicated chess computers not what PC program on a PPC could or would do to a dedicated chess computer. The Atlanta is more for collecting than playing so there is no reason to dismiss the Atlanta.

Your advice cost your friend about $200 US.

Terry
My post was praising the Atlanta and the topic was to do with selling an Atlanta on Ebay.In New Zealand there is a local Auction site called TradeMe and only people in NZ or Australia are allowed to bid.It was on the auction site for over a week and failed to get any bids. Then it was relisted at the same price hoping to see if there was more interest. But in the end only 1 person bidded and I had to sell it.This was before I knew how valuable these dedicated units are.In hindsight I wish I had just paid my friend the $125 and kept it myself. As I am now teaching my 7 year old daughter the game and I think a dedicated machine is better for begginers as it gives them the the satisfaction of moving real chess pieces on a real chessboard.I am now on the lookout for a suitable Dedicated for this purpose.Just like that saying you don't know how much you love somthing till its gone.
First you say to your friend you're better off with a PPC with a decent engine loaded, then you say you're were embarrassed as the Atlanta won, hoping it would lose, and finally you are delighted, (implied), that the PPC won the next two games.

You had to sell it?

You stated your friend sold it. Or were you selling it for him?

You said nothing about your daughter. Non Sequitur

Your story is inconsistent.

Judge Judy Sends Her Regards....

P.S. In your favour you did say he sold it for a paltry sum.

P.P.S. Get your daughter Chessmaster for learning the game, and a DGT Board to play it on if it's within your budget.

SapphireII wants to play Qd5 also. But the SapphireII hoots along at
a blistering 4500nps, faster than Atlanta. S2 is running at 32mhz.
If Hiarcs can't find QxN then there is a pretty small chance *any*
dedicated will find it.

Have to agree with Larry, much as I'm routing for the Atlanta as I own one.

I doubt even the Revelation would stand a chance against this position.

Maybe if the Atlanta had a month or two............??
