IPCCC 2009
Dear computer chess friends,
after the long break (there was no IPCCC in 2008) we are glad to announce the 18th Paderborn Computer Chess Championship
(IPCCC) taking place in the HNF MuseumsForum in Paderborn. It will be
again a cooperation between the HNF and the University Paderborn and will again be held concurrently to the Schachtürkencup, a human brain chess tournament
The 18th IPCCC will take place from Dec. 27th to Dec 30th 2009. The
maximum number of participating programs is 16. Please, let us know as
soon as possible whether you like to participate. Please, let us also
know, if you can play remote, or whether you plan to bring your own
hardware to Paderborn, or whether you need hardware from the University.
As in the previous years we will provide mouses, monitors, and keyboards
anyway.
The timing rules will be as in the preceding IPCCCs, i.e something like 2 hours for the entire game for each side. This ensures that a game will not take more than 4 hours, and we have the opportunity to play up to 3 rounds at one or two days.
For a detailed schedule and/or a list of currently registered
participants please check out our website
http://wwwcs.uni-paderborn.de/~IPCCC/
Best regards

Dear computer chess friends,
unfortunately we have to announce that due to a lack of registrations
the International Paderborn Computer Chess Championship (IPCCC) will NOT
take place in 2009. This is the second time in succession that the
tournament does not take place. We are searching for possibilities to
let the IPCCC survive.
It would be very helpful to know whether there is still enough interest
in the participation of the IPCCC from a general point of view. Thus,
I'd like to ask those former participants that did not register for this
year (and of which I do not already know the reason for the
non-registration), whether they generally have interest in joining an
IPCCC 2010.
Best regards,
Tobias

Only 4 entrants and no-one after Rybka entered. Would there have been any hardware constraints?
Assuming the entrants list was in chronological order, it almost seems that after Rybka entered the word "competition" lost its meaning!

IPCCC Scheduling...
I remember many IPCCC tournaments with horrible December (read: holiday) scheduling.. I'm sure the economy and perhaps Rybka's "cluster" domination has something to do with it, but the holiday scheduling has plagued these tournaments for a long time.Harvey Williamson wrote:There were no hardware restrictions.Peter Grayson wrote:Very disappointing.Harvey Williamson wrote:Dear computer chess friends,

First or second week of December might have helped participation a lot.

Either the super settings for Zappa Mex will appear or that program everyone keeps talking about turns out not to be some sort of clone

Well, we're all curious to see your settings and results no doubt.
However between having an engine that's no longer under development (Zappa) squeezed to get an extra 80 ELO (which is very impressive, don't get me wrong), and your previous claim of Rybka's current reign ending, there's still quite a gap
