If memory serves me well you are right. Improvements of the ChessMachine were ported into the Polgar 6502 version. It would explain.
I further remember the Nigel Short was only sold in the UK (hence its name) being part of an attempt of H&G to conquer the British market. Very few were sold, it explains why it is hardly available nowadays.

it was made at a time ed schröder did the chessmachine stuff for task and we can imagine that the sources are the most modern ed shroeder sources (for 8 bit 6502) we can reach.
the nigel short was kind of latest dedicated chess computer they produced before they were bought and overtaken (by saitek) because they were bancrupt.

Thought it was appropriate to bump up this 6 year old thread of Ricard60, as the new SSDF ratinglist is released today, including the Mephisto Nigel Short as the strongest non-overclocked 8-bit chess computer we have ever tested in the SSDF!
