I was lucky that the seller missed out some key words such as "computer" or "electronic" or "machine" as I am sure that other bidders would have discovered it.I just stumbled on to it by mistake when looking at chess boards.

How lucky depends on which version it is. This machine was also released
in a 'B' version, which looks identical to the more common 'A' version. On
the 5 second level play 1h4 and wait for the reply. If it replies with a centre
pawn push then sadly it's an 'A'. If it plays 1...g6, then yes, you should buy
a lottery ticket, because it's a 'B'.
Let me prepare you...the box appears to be an 'A' box. We discussed this
issue some time back on this forum.

Got the Challenger "9" today, 1st thing to do was plug in adaptor and set to level 1 (5secs/move) average.I played the move 1.h4 and it replied with 1..e5.So must be version "A".
Still happy with purchase as the previous owner had it from new and kept all the instruction, box, etc in very good condition.
I might be selling it soon on TM and might get interest from Froggy2.
