i would love to test this on one of my computers because most 2000+ ELO dedicated computers can search fairly deeply in endgame positions like this with few pieces on the board

however at this moment ,between the CC game and the Palm Hiarcs match and the Conical Conic i just have too many computers set up to give it a whirl with a different computer

so you are stuck with me on this one...

in this position Steve B (1000 ELO.. SS)set for 60 minutes thinking time wants to play Ra8+ ..rating the position as +.87 for white and searching just barely 2 ply deep

So Many Computers..So Little Time Regards
Steve

That is good going there Steve.I tested the same program Toga ll 1.2.1a on my fastest PPC 624Mhz and it finds e5 in 2 seconds at depth 8.Have you tested it with your Rybka which runs than your Res II.

Interesting Cubeman

Rybka(2.2) wanted to at first play Rxg7 but then after 14 seconds and 10 ply it settled on e5 returning a PV of +5.73

Hmmm Regards

Old thread but still nice position!
Under tournament conditions (3:00 minutes per move) the Mephisto Atlanta recommends 41. e5, too, after 3:03 minutes and 10_21 ply. The evaluation goes up from +1.2 (if I remember correctly) to +2.8. The pawn e5 forms a curtain, so to speak, for the white king to move forward no matter whether the white pawn stays or gets captured by pf6. A good idea.
