Actually, I've had some pretty good luck on eBay lately.
Glad you have, Dave. I had a disappointment this week. I won an
auction for a Designer Mach4 at a good price, from the middle east.
The seller told me had had yet to set up a paypal account so I could'nt
pay him until that was done. Here's the auction:

Then a couple of days back he sent me this email:
----------------------------------------------------------------
"Dear Larry,

Sorry for the late response, I'm afraid that I won't be able to send the item due to some technical issues.
Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience.

Have a nice day"
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I wrote straight back and asked him to elaborate, because I'm pretty
handy at fixing minor problems with these things. Still no reply.
I'm wondering if he got a better offer after the auction closed. Some
people are quite without scruples.
L
Larry did you ever get this resolved? I also bid on this item and initially contacted the seller who said he had a couple of other chess computers to sell.

Hi, no, it was'nt resolved, certainly not to my satisfaction. The seller
weasel'd his way out by telling me he was selling it for a friend, and the
friend suddenly took it back at the end of the auction, supposedly because
his son wanted to play with it.
Coincidentally, a German collector who had been looking for a Des.Mach4
for a while, suddenly came into possession of one at the same time as
the one I won at auction was taken off the market. Sound fishy?

It does sound fishy. I managed to get myself a mach II the cheaper of the two that sold on ebay uk this week so am happy about that.

No, no, Steve, you don't understand. The German chess community
is working on having it's own flag. This one is the first suggestion.

Now I Ask You....
just how much much longer would it have taken to post this right side up??

http://www.ebay.com/itm/novag-carnelian ... 1449664832

I can just imagine this guy..frantically pressed for time..having to actually ship the computer
probably would stuff it in a paper bag..slap some stamps on it and toss it in the "outgoing mail" bin

this leaves a very bad impression for potential bidders...

Ebay 101 Regards
Steve
