I have never sold a chess computer. Swapped a couple in the past. So I don't think that just by buying a computer you really want, would be causing inflated pricing, so I don't know if you can blame the collectors who after all mostly keep what they have bought. Being a Capitalist I do hope that someday if I do have to sell some that I get back what I paid for it. Besides these people know that a collector would know enough not to click that $400 buy now button, it is not a collector that they are trying to sell to. I actually dislike people more who just pop up here out of nowhere and advertise that they are planning to sell x, y or z on Ebay next week and to be looking for it. And, then they disappear never to be heard of again until such a time as they are prepping their next sale. I wonder which one is worse?

The persons who try to sell a $20 computer for $400 are either just nuts or brilliant entrepreneurs if they get away with it.

The sad thing is that there is probably someone always out there who will click the $400.00 buy now button on that $20 Kingmaster 2 in 1 from Excalibur.

Have you ever done a search at Amazon.com? That's their main hangout.

Best regards
Nick

Risc 2500-128kb confused with the Ultra Rare Mephisto Montreux On Ebay:
this is what happens when a seller gets his hands on a a little information that he does not research correctly

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Saitek-Kasparov ... 51ceb96137

seller will also allow payment over time ...

Layaway Plan Regards

Is it a new trend to throw in the word "montreux" to help jack up the
value of a risc2500? In this case without the manual or box?

Stupidity takes over. Some people are to stupid for Google.

Or it is not stupidity but criminal behaviour.

You should make this seller the next target in your war against dedicated chess computer injustice

I would agree. I don't think it is coincidental that this RISC 2500 computer was just placed on Ebay a few days after a WTB post here on HIARCS. Placing Montreux in the title is misleading and creates confusion.

Best solution to this problem is to wait out the auction. If the seller has to reduce his price to sell the item, then it is clear it was overpriced. We will have to see what happens.

Ebay Russ from Salt Lake City strikes again.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fidelity-Chess- ... 3cf39db90b

The very same CC1 sold two months ago for $405 -

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-FIDELIT ... 7675.l2557

There is an entertaining thread back in 2008 on Ismenio's old forum where Russ gets a bit upset. -

http://users.boardnation.com/~chesscomp ... 92;start=0

Mclane's post at the end of the thread turns out to be ironic, with his attitude to Ebay sellers who try their luck.

Ebay's a jungle regards

Kinda sad to read Overtom's posts
we had some contact back then...nothing too significant really
he was a knowledgeable collector
I bought a few computers from his collection after he passed when they were offered for sale
