I bid a fair $390 usd for a CXG Commander 2.04 board that was far from mint aesthetic and electronic condition. I‘m not upset I didn‘t win but am upset about the winning price of over $1200 usd. Now really people who can justify paying such a price for a not guaranteed working unit with no refunds at all. We are artificially increasing of these computers by competing against each other on ebay. We need to agree on prices amongst ourselves beforehand and stick to fair limits and have some kind of a system based of what each collector most desires and who got what last etc.

Greetings tt:
That CXG Commander auction started off @ $1 and I was curious as to where it would close.
The wooden auto-sensory board contained a small chip and will be needing new reed switches as well.

Yes....over $1200 for the Commander
I believe a new world's record for a CXG Computer on Ebay
Collecting Can Be A...

For a Commander/Sphinx 40 yes. Not a world record though, looking at Jose's list Sphinx 50 was sold for Euro 1510 and another one at a whopping 2509 Euro in 2007. That would have been about $3500.00 at the exchange rate that was relevant back then. Add 8 years of cost of living index and you get close to $4000.00 Makes the V11 listing on Ebay look like a really really good deal!

Well then..the Commander was a steal at this price..a mere $1200
Pfft Regards
Steve
A good deal for someone who wanted it badly enough I am sure. Since the same program is in a Dominator you could however save yourself about $900, if wooden board is not so important to you.
With the cost of second hand chess computers going the way it presently is, it would not surprise me if they start getting professional repo agents involved when deadbeat collectors won't pay their schachcomputer loans off.
Chess is like painting the Mona Lisa whilst walking through a minefield.

basically the same computer as the Decorator Challenger but the housing is slightly different(no legs for example)
pieces dont look original
I am a keen Fidelity collector particularly the designer series. Would I be better buying several regular models or one special.

The seller is the guy who made the main board. He knows what he
is doing, and has made a name for himself as a reliable seller.
The auction will probably peak out at around GBP300 or so.

if you are a collector you should know this is not an original Fidelity Computer..it is not a "special" Fidelity computer
this guy sells ..home made.. modified chess computers
the computer you are looking at is an unauthentic ..never released for sale modified chess computer
here you have a Fidelity Designer Display 2000 Jazzed up to work at clock speeds and with a Processor never intended by the manufacturer
having said all that..there are folks who are interested in this sort of thing
and so this guy keeps pumping them out
