I saw the link for the picture, but I can't open it. But, the video was very helpful! I think I know how to reproduce the modification, so I won't be ignoring those eBay listings for Savants that occasionally pop up.

Thanks for sharing that excellent success story!
Cheers,

The Montreux special Kasparov edition is back on the bay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Montreux-Chess- ... SwX61ZE312

With an even higher price tag than before to re-affirm its truly-super-rarity.

Best rarities,

buyer has no idea if its working

I tried to ask the seller to post a picture of the board switched on, just to see if the display works.

Here ebay's feedback:

"
We're sorry we couldn't find an answer for you. Unfortunately, this seller is not able to respond to your question. We suggest reviewing the item again to see if your answer is in the seller's listing.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fidelity-Intern ... SwH09ZKG6s

but we still have the "untested" hoax
and the price of course is beyond reason

Going thru my chess life magazines I found that there was a version of EAG 2100 with voice. How can you tell them apart??

900 US dollars for this computer still expensive regards.

Mike
most EAG 2100's had the voice
in fact it was the last model in the EAG series with the voice
you cant tell the difference cosmetically
the model number is 6088 for voice 2100
voiceless 2100 is 6089
would be best to simply ask a seller if the computer speaks when it is first turned on

Actually I do happen to have a spare set of Avant Garde pieces, and
a suitable adaptor. I considered making an offer, but noticed the
seller ships only to USA. One thing in favour is that this comp has
a proprietary adaptor fitting, so there's a slim chance it copped too
much voltage. It's a fair bet that it does have some problems, starting
with bad reeds. A bit of a line ball.

Just noticed that it's also available for $45 spread over 24 months.
Never realised you could buy by instalments!

Well the defective Robot sells for $1550
continuing the trend that broken chess computers sell for top dollar on Ebay these days
at least the buyer can look forward to spending many Hours with the Robot for many years to come...
