HCE reduced Elo play - opening book questions

Post by pwwaring »

Does the choice for "book mode" in the engine settings affect the play for the reduced Elo settings?

Also, I currently have the Hiarcs14dBook.HCS tournament book loaded. I know the quality of that book for analysis, but is that the best book to use for reduced Elo play, or is there a better choice?

Yes the book mode will affect the play on set Elo levels. However, the elo level will also affect the opening choices.

On weaker Elo levels you will find the computer will play more whacky openings and the computer will forget it openings sometimes or mix up moves. This is part of the play realism function.

The 14d book is good for the set elo play too as it has the hooks for the play realism.
Best wishes,
Mark
