White to move and win.
[fen]8/p7/1rp2kp1/8/2Qpq3/3N4/Pb3PP1/1R4K1 w - - 0 1 [/fen]
Qg8!! leads to a clear advantage. This a possible continuation from the Kramnik-Meydorov, Tal memorial tourney.
Toga II 1.2.1a takes just over 5 minutes on my PPC to find Qg8!!.

That is a strange result, as I have Hiarcs 9.7 analysing this position too.
The engine is set to the default settings with 2048Kb hash.It has been looking at the position for over an hour and has the following output.
D12 5014s -0.23 Rxb2 Rxb2 Nxb2
D12 Qg8 4/37 38922972N.
As you can see it is now considering Qg8 but has not confirmed if it is the best this is now after 2hours and 43 sec.
If any one can reproduce the 28 secs with a Palm T5 or even T3 overclocked I will be amazed.

Res II-Engine X finds Qg8 in 1 min..47 seconds and stays with it for the full 15 min i let it run...scoring the position as + 1.89 for white

Yep, 29 Secs on a standard T5 (not overclocked), standard hash table of 2MB at time control G/30 !

D8 29s -0.26 Qg8

Actually the Res II-Engine X results don't look that impressive compared to my 'lowly' Palm (the HIARCS always seems very impressive on the Palm Intel Intel PXA261).

cheers, Mark

Thanks for all the quick replies. It seems that Hiarcs for Palm works differently on Palm devices compared too PocketPC using styletap.
Because when I tested Hiarcs 9.7 using my iPaq hx4700 under styletap it took Hiarcs 22131 seconds (which is just over 6 hours) to find Qg8 as best and was only achived at the D 12 depth.
I no longer have a Palm unit and can't test my idea, but from all the replies it does seem true.

if this is true than testing with this styletab hiarcs is very contraproductive.
could it be that hiarcs rus without hash on those emulations ?
