Kramnik v Anand Advanced Chess

Post by Harvey Williamson »

# 23rd November 2007: Advanced Chess Match between Viswanathan Anand (India) and Vladimir Kramnik (2 games under rapid time control)

Venue: GUM, Red Square, 2, Moscow (Russia) Official Website: http://russiachess.org/eng/

In a recent interview Kramnik said:
This is purely a show. In this form of play, the computer’s role is 80% and yours only 20%. But this 20% is decisive. You have to know how to use the computer well, when to turn it on and when to switch it off. I hope I manage to do so.

Hi,
It is the interesting show before the real match.
It is the other problem if the adavanced chess will start to replace the OTB chess as the motorcycle races replaced the horse races.

I hope that not but it is probable :-(.

The people are still competing in the traditional way (light athletics) and
in the 'technical sports'.

We do have the chess on the hexagonal board and no very strong programms , fortunately.

Hi Ted,

Thanks for the games. Do you know what engines were used?

Best Wishes,

Harvey

The 1st game Berliner Wall - tested in match vs Kasparov. I think it was psychological manouver by Kramnik before the real match. Stop Anand from playing e4 ? ;-)

2nd game Merane System by A. Rubinstein. I have not any opinion about the game, yet.

I do not think that computers were giving much more to that game in comparison to usual one. The home preparation was played, probably. Home preparation done with computer, of course.
It will be interesting to know the others opinions and impressions.

Hi Harvey,

No I don't know  what engines were used. I had missed the match and had to download the games later.

Well said: at this time control advanced chess is only a show. I do not think it will replace tournament otb play, but we have it already, where it belongs, at another time control: correspondence chess!
Kind regards, Frank

Video of both games

Post by tano-urayoan »

Here is a short video of both games with comments from the players after the games. Maybe someone with a good eye will get a glimpse of the engine(s) used, altough i believe the players do not want to make free publicity to any engine in particular.
