Problem with HCE 1.7 via wine on linux

Post by Cositas »

Hello there,

I've been using HCE successfully via wine on my linux machine (openSuse 13.1 x64) so far. After an update to v.1.7 and installing a new engine the Preferences window shows strange behaviour:

- no Chess set is available
- Outline+shadow doesn't work
- Board style changed to plain colors - there are no other styles

Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't help.

I'd love to get some suggestions how to solve this problem.

Best regards, Michael

Please redownload and re-install and it should be resolved.
Best wishes,
Mark

Hello Mark,

unfortunately that doesn't work at all. After downloading and re-installing HCE 1.7 the problem is still there.

No, nothing changes with framed squares or without. Perhaps something has corrupted the registry -- is that possible?

My guess is that because we have used a more recent version of the Qt toolkit in v1.7 that Wine on Linux OS is not compatible.

Please send me an email and I will see what I can do.
Best wishes,

Works with Wine 1.8, Windows 10 version of Hiarcs1.8

Post by chipschap »

I'm getting into this thread a little late, but I do want to document that Hiarcs 1.8, the special Windows 10 version, works 100% with my configuration, Wine 1.8, Linux Mint 17.2.

Versions after 1.6 and up to the 1.8 *non* Windows 10 version don't work at all in this configuration (I've had luck with 1.7 with an earlier version of Wine on a 32-bit system, but no luck with the latest Wine on a 64 bit system).

In any case you (or whomever might read this) should be able to get Hiarcs to work. I think I've tried just about all the options and everything is completely functional.
