Fidelity Elite AG V2

Post by Steve B »

Can someone with an EAG V2 try this position with BLACK TO MOVE
how long it takes for the V2 to complete a 7 ply search?

BLACK TO MOVE
[fen]rnbqkbnr/pppppp1p/6p1/8/P7/8/1PPPPPPP/RNBQKBNR w KQkq - 0 2[/fen]

after a full 7 ply search the V2 will want to play 2..Bg7
i am interested in the exact time it takes to complete the full 7 plies
(the display depth with change to "8 0")

Thanks In Advance Regards
Steve

Steve:
I ran your position on my EAG V2 on level g7. It completed a full 7ply search before moving 2...Bg7 in 2min 48 sec.

Thanks Jed

i have an interesting situation here
i have one V2 that takes over 5 minutes to complete a 7 ply search
and another one that takes exactly the time yours does
i wonder if this is due to different program versions in the V2?

Perhaps you can check one further thing for me?
while powering up ..if you press the TB key at the same time.. you will enter a special mode which provides certain information

if you press the TB key twice you will see the first set of numbers detailing the program version
a third key press will tell you the second set of numbers for the program version

here is the program version for my V2 that takes longer to complete 7 ply
F66D 463E

and the version number for the faster V2..
FD5C 49AC

If you can check your program version ..perhaps we will have a match
which would indicate that there were indeed different programs in the V2
If you get totally different numbers all together i guess i am barking up the wrong tree

Faster is not necessarily better regards

Yes my EAG V2 is exactly is the same as your faster version FD5C 49AC. It would be interesting to see how your two computers would compare in problem mode. The solve times could be significantly different. Maybe your slower version is an earlier model. Can't say I've ever heard of two versions of a V2 though. My serial number is 92230054 if that helps.

Thanks again
i also never heard of two different program versions in the V2
and yet ..something must be causing the different search times

Faster V2 Serial ....92230289
Slower V2 Serial....92570008
Slower V2 has a higher(later) serial number

A Puzzlement Regards

Fidelity Elite Premiere (SN 50628)

Program version F667 4B06

2..Bg7 in 2min 48sec

Never quite certain what you have until you look under the bonnet. Particularly with Fidelitys. Lots of variations to be discovered? I have four versions of the Little Chesster now in various guises and when you take them apart they are all different. I found H&G (Mephisto) chips in two of them!

I am starting to buy chess computers just to see what is inside. Help!

All the best

Mike, I feel your pain. I'm currently waiting for a Fidelity Super9 to
arrive from the USA. I bought it because it speaks English, unlike
the one I've already got that speaks only Spanish.

Looking inside is the only real way so see whats up
the problem for me is i am loath to do that
i usually wind up unintentionally ripping something out of some soldering joint somewhere

sadly ,even the Fidelity self-testing routine isnt quite up to speed
the 7th press of the TB key is supposed to indicate the Hash Ram Installed
when i tried this with my V6 it reported only 128k..which i know is wrong
had to pry open the machine to verify for myself it had 512k
when i got it all back together ,I was rewarded for my efforts with a C1 Reed switch that died on me

Hate When That Happens Regards
Steve

My V9 pops reed switches with monotonous regularity.
As I understand, the V2 is the snobs Mach3. I set up the Designer Mach3
for the above position, and with infinite level chosen, it searched through
to "0 8" in 2mins40secs. Note the Fidelity's give the selective search to the
left of the display and full width to the right, ie, the opposite of other
brands. Maybe Steve overlooked this when he wrote "8 0" ?
This makes the DesignerMach3 faster than V2, unless I'm mistaken.

Hi Oswaldo, no, the Designer 2100 is a lesser program.
It's more or less the same as the Par Excellence.
