About the profile of lads here...

Post by Fernando »

I have the impression that in average the members here are like this:

around 55 years old, perhaps 60
professionals with a degree of success.
moneyed to a degree
high IQ at about 130 or more
families of about one or two wives and 2-4 children
Am I right?

I'm probably the eldest around here. Born 18 June 1947, recently turned
67 years. I'm not a professional but have had a moderate degree of
investing success, so I have a comfortable income stream. Our IQ does
not seem to be a constant number, but operates in a range depending on
time of day, time of life, stress levels, etc etc. Do enough IQ tests and you
simply get good at doing IQ tests. Married once, approaching our 43rd
wedding anniversary. We have a son aged 41 and a daughter 36, and
have four granddaughters, eldest is 12.

Was tested when I was 10 years old and I believe my IQ was 125.

# Soon to be 49

professionals with a degree of success.

# Teacher in social sciences (academic, scholar). Success is relative, not measured as in chess

moneyed to a degree

# Don't spend a lot and stopped smoking many moons ago, so I use to carry many coins in my wallet

high IQ at about 130 or more

# I presume one can learn to play IQ tests and explore its weaknesses to get an inflated IQ Elo. That must be the main purpose of IQ playing clubs like"Mensa". I did play a bit with IQ testes when young but not anymore. Could get a 130 probably.

families of about one or two wives and 2-4 children

# One wife and one son

Am I right?

# Somehow. To a point.

well, I see that I am not far the target.
Myself:
65 years old
one wife to date, 35 years of marriage
3 daughters
moneyed to a point, but not rich, only Blincoe is such a guy here...
successful to a point

a despicable collector, not more than 12 machines or so, half of them gifts by Blincoe, the rest purchases by myself.

I see we are the kind of guys that can meet each other, any time, in an hotel during some of those conventions where old farts gather to discuss anything, maybe UFO sightings, then drink a lot and have sex with whores at 50 bucks the hour.
We should organize something of the sort in Las vegas...

I am 54

professionals with a degree of success.

4TH level education

Moneyed to a degree

After the divorce i was left in the extreme poverty. Only left my 7 dedicated chess machines. As i can not afford any other i had to start building my own so i start using my third level education to build Mysticum dedicated chess machines. I build one and now i am starting to build my 2nd one. I am allways working for somebody else so i will never be rich.

IQ,
I was once measured 134, now i believe 80 or less

Family,

Two children, no more wifes , women are smarter than me probably IQ 140 or more

I'm 34

Enjoying computer chess since 1992 when I was 12. Working in the field of appllied A.I. / Machine Learning. Family: yes :D Money: No Collection: only 15 most important ones like RISC-2, Revelation, MachIV etc.

Related projects:
"Master" -> probably the strongest Nine-Mens-Morris prog since 2006. Since 2012 also available as an Android-applet, although much weaker: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ster&hl=de

"Chess Communication Middleware" --> connecting 90ies The-King, Gideon and other emulated progs with the Citrine, DGT and other E-boards. Emulation hardware is similar to the well known Raspberry Pi. No PC required. Its already possible to play against some on the Citrine, but not very stable yet. Currently no time to go on with this one, but maybe in the second half of this year.

Kind Regards,
Theo

Not so much, but then I haven't been here that long.

To be a little more specific, but only a little, I'm: more than a few years younger, it depends on how you define professional or success, I have been in the past, it's been a while since I checked (but a bit higher than that the last time I did) and no, not at all.

I am a transient individual who hitchhikes from outback ghost town to ghost town, often living off the land, playing my accordion and banjo on street corners for whatever coins good patrons can spare, living off cheap hotel food with a dillybag on my back holding all my worldly goods, including dozens of chess computers, a DGT Judit Polgar board and pieces and a weathered copy of Tal's 100 Best Games.
Chess is like painting the Mona Lisa whilst walking through a minefield.

Interesting life style. I have dreamed more than once in abandoning everything and doing something like what you does.

Tired of paying bills regards
