Nick
I have just started testing and my spreadsheet for game 2 starts off with move 6 but you have only shown how moves 1-4 have been played. What are the moves number five or am I missing something?

Thanks for stepping in Paul. Bryan I will when I get the chance this weekend, relist the spreadsheets to make sure they are all easily accessible. Also will try and create spreadsheets on the completed tests so that anyone interested can look through them and compare the results with any computers they may want to compare with.

Best regards

Thanks Nick that would be great.

I have followed your Gavon 2 results with great interest as I built my own Gavon 1 with the help of Josu.

I'll not tell you which chess computer I'm testing yet but it is a hand built wooden autosensory with a engine that has not been commercially released as a chess computer. Hopefully it might be of interest to some people here.

Regards
Bryan

Hi Bryan,

Ok so you will keep us all hanging in suspenders until you are ready to tell us eh :D

When you get a chance can you share a photo of your new auto-sensory wooden board. Would like to see it.

Best regards
Nick

I finished the tests for the Master Chess. A little disappointing!
Testgames 1 and 3 very good, the other three very bad...
On average even a little below the Saitek Cougar!

Code: Select all

       1 2 3 4 5 avg
White 2880 2092 2570 1716 2238 | 2299
Black 2504 1878 2552 2087 1735 | 2151
Total 2692 1985 2561 1902 1987 | 2225
I will send Nick the details shortly, who knows what the correction of the total may show...

Regards,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks, the final score is not bad it fits in the list. Yes I also find it quite funny and interesting that programs have their ups and downs in these tests.

Hi Nick,
Ok, but it surprises me because on the wiki elo liste it scores 100 elo points better then the Cougar. Maybe when playing games it manages to avoid positions where it is not good at ?
When I find the time I will let them play a small match.

Regards, Paul.

Hi Paul,
It just means that the in these tests Cougar is better. If I were to add more tests then in the other tests maybe Master is better.

Have you ever seen Cosmos play at 24 MHz? It plays as strong as Master and has an interesting different tactical style even though it lacks RAM.

Sometimes especially in the early days programmers spent a lot of time playing their program versions against each other to improve them until they were happy that version B wins more often against version A. But reality was not always the same once these versions played other programs or humans. It is part of the reason why for years you have had the debate about Dallas and Roma, which one is better? Or Super Expert B versus Super Expert C.

Best regards
Nick

Hi Nick,

No, but I am about to receive Mephisto chess challenger, which is a clone, tuned to run at 40 mhz :-D.
Right now the similar Centurion 40 mhz is already on the list at 2200 elo.
So I will have to do some tests and matches when it arrives ;-)

40 mhz regards,
Paul
