New game - guess what I'm watching

Post by Reinfeld »

Hints:

1) It's a chess computer.
2) It's on ebay right now.
3) I might have to buy it.

Whatever could it be? Guesses welcome. Dipping into second beer and toasting Fern and Janice...

Vancouver and London
in its box with 68030 manuals and pieces

this auction only has the one Portorose engine

the question is...

No doubt. Each day that goes is a new day those machines are older and so more expensive.
I am dreaming of the day when I will sell my CC7 at 8 kilobucks.

Hopes born from beer regards

Oh all right - I'll end the guessing game.

It was Fidelity model 6080B - an Excellence variant. Yes, I already have one. I bought it anyway. Complete, no box, no manual. 30 smackers. I know the difference between 6080 and 6080B is unsettled, and maybe no difference exists. I know because I stumbled across an ancient post from Steve, linked here:

http://www.stmintz.com/ccc/index.php?id=489600

I wonder, but do not know, whether the 6080B is a 4Mhz version - or if that only came in the EP12 models. Regardless, I can try a few tests with my old original Excellence (6080) and see if any behavioral differences appear...

Game over regards,

- R.
