I'm happy to see Komodo in the list, it's good to have finally attracted a top rating-list competitor in the post-Rybka era. I wonder what it would take to get Stockfish to enter?Harvey Williamson wrote:The following have entered so far for the tournament in leiden at the end of June.

If Horvath entered this year, I wonder if it would be listed as Fritz or Pandix?
I hope Hiarcs and Shredder will be competing with new versions?

Re: World Computer Chess Championship 2015
It would take a flexible interpretation of the ICGA rules, in combination with someone who contributed to the code to enter it. The problem in the case of Stockfish is that those recognized as 'principal authors' have a second agenda to destroy world championships (Tord) or OTB computer tournaments in general (Marco).IanO wrote:I wonder what it would take to get Stockfish to enter?
Current ICGA rules allow any co-author of a program to enter it in the WCCC, provided he lists all other authors, and the latter grant their permission. Now from a legal perspective the GPL constitutes such a permission. It is always up to the ICGA, however, whether an eligible candidate will be admitted, and presumably they would only allow entry by someone who significantly contributed to the code (as opposed to someone who just changed the name string) to enter a GPL'ed program. But it is up to the ICGA to decide how large that contribution will have to be.
Opinions on this range from very conservative (voiced by Bob Hyatt), which claim that until eternity only Tord, Joona and Marco would have that right, even when they are no longer actively working on the program and none of the code they wrote survives in it, to very liberal, where contributing a patch for, say, tablebase probing would already qualify as a sufficient contribution. I guess it is just a policy difference to what end ICGA would want to use its rules: should they be used to make it as difficult as possible to enter, and raise barriers based on legal technicalities to keep the number of WCC participants as small as possible, or should we make it easy for original programs to participate?
