***NEWS FLASH***Mystery Computer SMASHES & DESTROYS Igor

Post by spacious_mind »

Hot from the Reuters News Desk this astounding event happened just minutes ago and was witnessed by a shocked bedraggled unkempt Hiarcs Forum bum who just happened to have a camera around his neck to take this exclusive snap of a Mystery Computer that hurriedly ran from the crime scene after crushing an unsuspecting Excalibur Igor, leaving Igor unconscious. Shortly thereafter, after receiving some assistance from the Hiarcs Forum bum and receiving something to sniff from a bottle, Igor was still bewildered and confused staring vacantly at scattered chess pieces strewn across the table and floor when the Excalibur Men in Black, closely followed by the Italian Paparazzi arrived at the scene.

MYSTERY COMPUTER PHOTO

What nature of a beast is this Mystery Computer that so shamed Excalibur's Flagship into submission? Premeditated it certainly was according to forensic experts who have determined that all external birthmarks were carefully removed to avoid detection.

The Italian Paparazzi as usual were quick to the scene, but no amount of bullying or bribery helped in eliciting more information about the perpetrator from the only witness, this shocked, bedraggled, unkempt Hiarcs bum.

However, the Paparazzi did succeed in putting a timeline together of what actually might have happened.

Supposedly this really cheap mysterious looking computer just walked up to Igor and asked him for a game. Igor looking down his nose at this cheap looking Mystery Computer was heard sniggering and saying "Heck why not this should be a laugh!".

And so they started playing.

At this point the Hiarcs bum remembered Igor sounding a little superior and saying to the Mystery Computer "Out of book ideas already eh!", which the Mystery Computer seemed to just ignore.

It is rumored that Excalibur's Men in Black have put out a handsome reward for anyone who can identify the perpetrator of this shocking humiliating event!

I know it's cheesy. We also know who the Programmer is but I cannot say, I am holding out for more money from the Paparazzi.

Greedy regards

Nick

Is it one of these?

By the way a new Vega has recently been launched in the UK by two individuals who can't keep away from old computers - Clive Sinclair and David Levy. Unfortunately not a chess computer - http://www.zxvega.co.uk/The_Vega

All the best

Yes that the one!! :) The Sakkara Vega.

20 MHz H8 Christian Donninger program. Runs only on batteries though. It uses 6 AA batteries. Pretty much the same program as Tiger Grenadier. Also it must come from the same China Factory because the Vega has those round raised legs just like Tiger Episode 1 Star Wars Chess.

I knew people here were good and it would not take you long to identify it the Infidel!!

I am going to see about getting one of those Spectrum Vega's.

Best regards

Since the first game was so much fun, I tried to see how Excalibur Igor would play the King's Gambit as white. We saw how badly his Black play was in the earlier example.

[Event "Computer Test Match"]
[Site "Alabama"]
[Date "2015.05.18"]
[Round "?"]
[White "Excalibur Igor, LV 53."]
[Black "Sakkara Vega, LV 60/30."]
[Result "1/2-1/2"]
[WhiteElo "1834"]
[PlyCount "93"]
[EventDate "2015.05.18"]
[EventCountry "USA"]

1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Nc3 c6 5. Bb3 {Sakkara Vega out of book} d5
6. exd5 Nxd5 {Excalibur Igor out of book} 7. Nxd5 cxd5 8. Qf3 Be6 9. Ne2 g5 10.
Nc3 Qe7 11. O-O d4 12. Nd5 Qd8 13. Nf6+ Qxf6 14. Qxb7 Bc5 15. Ba4+ Kf8 16. Qxa8
Qe5 17. Qb7 d3+ 18. Kh1 Qe2 19. Rg1 Bxg1 20. Qxb8+ Kg7 21. Qb5

[fen]7r/p4pkp/4b3/1Q4p1/B4p2/3p4/PPPPq1PP/R1B3bK w - - 0 21[/fen]

Sakkara Vega has a forced mate here in 8 by playing 21. ... Bc5!! I wonder how many chess computers would find this forced mate? Sakkara Vega missed it.

h6 22. Qxd3 Qe1 23. Bb5

[fen]7r/p4pk1/4b2p/1B4p1/5p2/3Q4/PPPP2PP/R1B1q1bK w - - 0 23[/fen]

In this position as well Sakkara should have a quite easy win after 23. ... f3! I wonder how many computers would play 23. ... f3 in this position and win?

After missing both these opportunities, the game ended in a draw.

Be3+ 24. Qf1 Bxd2 25. Qxe1 Bxe1 26. Bxf4 gxf4 27. Rxe1 Bxa2 28. Re7 Rd8 29. Kg1 Rd2 30. b3 Kf6 31. Rc7 Kg5 32. Kf1 Bb1 33. Bd3 Kf6 34. Bc4 Bxc2 35. Rxf7+ Kg5 36. Rg7+ Kf6 37. Rxa7 Be4 38. Rf7+ Ke5 39. Re7+ Kf5 40. g4+ fxg3 41. hxg3 Rb2 42. Re8 Bg2+ 43. Ke1 Kg4 44. Rg8+ Kf5 45. Kd1 Be4 46. Re8 Rg2 47. Rf8+ 1/2-1/2

Well Excalibur Igor redeemed itself with this draw, although it was a little fortunate. Obviously the King's Gambit is not Igor's strength. Overall however I would guess that these computers are of fairly equal strength. Igor probably better under calm conditions and Vega having the edge in wild situations as shown with these King's Gambit games.

Here are the Test results for the Sakkara Vega. It scored ELO 2098. It scored particularly well in games 1 & 3 which are the open games. Games with solid steady positions, it does not do so well. Vega seems to be more of a Gambit Player.

Bb6 is mate in 8 as well as Bc5!! good test for dedicated but doubt many mediocre machines will find either, maybe some of the high end Mephisto/Tasc machines might find.
