All of those series of machines used a variant / update of the 4Kb Kaare Danielsen program that first saw light of day in the low-midrange Scysis machines of the early 80s (i.e. Explorer portable, Companion II desktop).John_F wrote:Asking nearly $2,000?? Was this an expensive computer when it was manufactured?
It had some refinements over the years and was adapted to a different processor for the Lexibook series.
So these machines are around the mid 1300 ELO mark. I'd be paying around $30 - $50 absolute maximum for a brand new one in the box. Obviously the one in the eBay auction is as over-priced as the recent Citrine offering. Maybe the respective sellers are friends
Chess is like painting the Mona Lisa whilst walking through a minefield.

I just noticed someone ask if the payments for the machine can be extended beyond 6 months Looks like the seller took the question seriously too.
I was in the middle of asking the seller if they'd throw in a couple of ounces of gold bullion to make up the difference in value between the asking price and true value of the item. Then I thought the better of it. Can't have eBay suspending me for harassing emails even if they are deserved!

I’m going to nominate a really ugly Fidelity machine that I’m ashamed to admit that I once owned.
I picked this eyesore up like-new in box for something like $5 at a garage sale.
Don’t look on a full stomach.
Makes Ugly Moves Too Regards,
John
