Advice on recently acquired Elite AG 2100

Post by ScottB »

Hi folks,
firstly thank you to anybody who takes the time to read this post.

Any info you are willing to kindly share is very much appreciated as i know very little on this subject.

I was very lucky to pick up a Fidelity Elite Avant Garde 2100
with all pieces. I want to find a transformer to test but have found conflicting info regarding voltage. Should it be 5 v or 9v.
Also would like confirmation on AC or DC before i cause irreparable damage.

The Model number is 6088, is this a model 8?

Many thanks in advance regards Scott

Scott,

This is the kind of adapter you need:

Image

Currently I don't see one on Ebay for sale.

This RadioShack would work:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Radio-Shack-AC- ... 3f52c3e929

You just remove the end and insert your chess computer cable into the two small holes. You do that before you plug it into an outlet.

That's assuming that is one of the RadioShack's that allows you to pull the end off. In a RadioShack store you can get them for sure.

No not any power adapter works. You need one with removable tips. Also I would get a 1000mA. The one in the photo 800mA should be ok at pinch but 1000mA is really what it needs.

Model 6088 is AG 2100.

Hello Scot,

Yes the higher ma is better u can also take 1000ma ore 1500ma ore 2000ma
The chessboard will take only the ma it need ,so no worry there

But u must have the right power supply of course , but that did say Nick already to u

Have fun with the EAG2100 i find it a very interesting chess computer due play style in active chess +- 30 sec it is very strong ,but in 40/120 it is not so good to mine opinion .

Let's make it easy for you. Contact Classic Chess and Games. The Elite Avant Garde adapter will cost you $45.

Hi Scott,

If you don't have the manual, you can download it here at this website:

http://www.zanchetta.net/default.aspx

Under the Documentations icon, you will be able to find the Fidelity Avantgarde manual and also the Avantgarde 2100 Addendum.

Take your time and read them as they will tell you a lot about all the things your computer can do.

Thanks nick, very useful.

So now i have started to use the set and discovered that two of the
places on the board do not detect a piece movement.
Which means the games over when a piece moves to those locations.

Which is such a shame as everything else seems to function.
I had a peek inside to see the little micro switches in glass tubes which obviously make contact when the magnets move the contacts.

Anybody have a source for replacements or ideas how to fix these components ??

Thanks again for all the great advice and info,
regards Scott
