Hi,

could you name the artists of the respective works?
I would like to add some examples of art I like but can't manage to include the picture here. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, Gerhard!
Author of first artwork is Jonathan Wolstenholme. Name of artwork is unknown, but this illustration is from series artworks "The Surreal books”.
Tove Jansson is an author of the second artwork “Family”.
The third artwork “A Young Man Sitting on a Settle Leaning over a Chess Table” was created artist Beryl Fowler.

I read the FAQ of this forum and there is such information:

“Can I post Images?
Images can indeed be shown in your posts. However, there is no facility at present for uploading images directly to this board. Therefore you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.some-unknown-place.net/my-picture.gif. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor to images stored behind authentication mechanisms such as Hotmail or Yahoo mailboxes, password-protected sites, etc. To display the image use either the BBCode [img] tag or appropriate HTML (if allowed).”

You need to submit your pictures to any web server and to add image link.

Welcome to the forum, Denis!

The first painting would go well with the chess library/study and could be titled “playing it by the book”.

The third looks a lot like the late Frank J. Marshall.

Yes, John! You are right. Indeed, the portrait of the man is very similar to Frank James Marshall.
By the way, I found his portrait created by the artist and a lover of chess Leonardus Nardus...

And a fine portrait it is, Denis!
Frank Marshall also makes a brief cameo alongside J.R. Capablanca in the 1925 film, Chess Fever.

Another longtime favorite is Lucas van Leyden’s “The Chess Players” (circa 1520).

Hopefully our other posters will chime in with their personal favorites...

Since I'm heading back to Toulouse next week I thought it would be appropriate to post a Daumier (Les joueurs d'échecs):

Glad that you enjoyed that vintage gem, Fern!

Back in 1992 the theme of chess and horror was explored in the film Knight Moves starring Christopher Lambert and Diane Lane.

Greg:

 A case of Déjà vu struck me when you posted this painting.

This morning it occurred to me that one of the players in my old JHS chess club (circa 1975) owned this 3M chess set that featured the same painting:
