PGN4WEB Or Similar Add-On
Hi,
is it possible for the admin of this forum to implement PGN4WEB or something similar as forum add-on to improve the presentation of games in PGN format?
Just My 2/50 Cents Regards,
Michael

Harvey is correct.
We are currently "ball-and-chained" to phpBB 2.x and 3.x is the newest platform.
If we upgrade, it requires some extensive manual work and PHP finesse because of the extent that our phpBB installation has been "custom" modified.
So, in other words, we've made our bed in phpBB 2.x so-to-speak...
Another example of such a conundrum would be the talkchess site.. They are stuck on the same phpBB platform as us, but even an older installation -- and for the same reason. Very heavy modifications.
Definitely open to any ideas, though.

Re: Too Bad!
I should have some time to tinker before year-end. I've been known to accomplish the impossible given enough time to burn (and we're talking 3x as much time as the average guy).
If that fails then yes... We will definitely need to find a PHP guru...

it's too bad, that there's no simple and easy solution, but perhaps there's an experienced guy out here?
I can wait Regards,

Double-edged sword. You upgrade to open the opportunity of new modules and add-ons but you lose all the modifications and custom work you've already done to your current installation.
Being that this is a chess-centric site, there isn't a lot of new stuff available (in terms of new modules that we'd actually get excited about).
So generally, the idea of hacking code to make new add-ons work is favored over starting with a complete new installation.

Yep it sounds like SAP to me. It gets modified and then you stop being able to do the updates or upgradesEnrico L. Carrisco wrote:Double-edged sword. Just seeing SAP on the screen makes me shudder. SAP may be powerful but it is one of the most unfriendly to users software designs I have ever been forced to use.spacious_mind wrote:Yep it sounds like SAP to me. It gets modified and then you stop being able to do the updates or upgrades

Glad to be retired now...regards,
