Do you have subcollections?

Post by paulwise3 »

At last I received the one and only Saitek GK 2000, of which are made so many clones. And it made me think about my (sub-)collection of GK 2000 clones. For me it all started with a mint Turbo Advanced Trainer.
That reminded me of a thread not too long ago, where a subcollection of chess teaching computers was mentioned, for instance the Mephisto Academy, Mephisto Schachakademie, Mephisto Talking Chess Academy, Mephisto Schachschule, Mephisto College, etc.

Right now I have a subcollection of 7 models for the famous GK 2000 (and there are a few more...):
Saitek GK 2000
Saitek Travel Champion 2080 (7 MHz instead of 10 MHz)
Saitek Turbo Advanced Trainer
Saitek Executive
Saitek Virtuoso
Saitek Barracuda
Mephisto Chess Explorer

What subcollections do our fellow collectors have? Would be interesting to hear about ;)

Subcollecting regards,
Paul

Interestingly - copy and clones

Post by dedicate computers »

Hi Paul;

Interestingly, in other words, clones can understand as copy then copy could understand how a pirate? However the computers have the same programmer, so I wouldn't have anything illegal in this theme? However we have several machines with the same style, which is not good!

Hi Oswaldo,

No, there is nothing illegal with these machines ;), these are all from the same manufacturer. But all with different design of the housing. And yes, all with the same program, so I probably will sell one or two again... or even try to tune one (sorry Steve :P)

But there are more programs that appear in different models and also by different manufacturers. One example is the 4 kb program of Kaare Danielsen.

But the reason I started this thread is that I was curious to know how other collectors look for (sub) collections. E.g. only wood, or all machines participating at a certain world championship in the past, only plastic, only a certain elo-range, etc. Just anything one can think of.

Kind regards
Paul

Hello Paul,

Paul, thanks for the clarification. I believe that Steve doesn't like the notion that someone can change something on the computer, Steve can be called the perfect collector!

Steve,
The news that I know here in Brazil do not point lower at the stock market in the U.S.
Could you explain better or is this a King's gambit?

Any enough big collection involves the existence of subcollections; any subcollection is in itself a collection.
A collection that is not big enough to have subcollections is NOT a real collection, but a sad joke.
So...
collections as such and subcollections coincide..
