Reed Switches for Mephisto Munchen board

Post by trontreez »

Hi,
I need some replacement reed switches for a faulty Mephisto Munchen board. Does anyone know the exact specifications required? Links to an online retailer would be great too.
Many thanks,
tt

Hi Hans,

I ordered these from the Conrad international store -

http://www.conrad.com/ce/en/product/503 ... ggest=true

I'm pretty sure they are the same as you listed. I get no audible "click" however when I pass the chess piece over it. Also I can't seem to see the two reed contacts to come apart either. Is this normal? I just want to make sure these are the right ones before I solder them into the board.

Thanks,

tt

Absolutely! The switching process is only visible with a magnifier or microscope, and not all reed contacts give a "click"! If you want to be sure you have to measure the switch function with a multimeter! The combination of magnet and reed switch is important, and of course the distance between reed switch and magnet (and what is in between)!

Thank-you all who helped. The faulty reed switches on the Mephisto Munchen-S have been replaced and are now working well :)

I'd like to add that it seems the magnetic part of most of the faulty switches were functional and the terminal parts of the switch, where it connects to the PCB, seemed to be at fault. They were visibly rusted/corroded so maybe just a spray with IPA and cleaning of the terminals could have solved the problem.

Thanks once again,

tt
