Problems with Genius machine

Post by Fernando »

The problem does not appear explained in the booklet.
In a sudden there are a serie of fast bip as a row of squares in the windows -columns- run from one side to the other and from top to bottom.
Is it result of weakened batteries?
The effect o some other electronic device?
Who knows about that?

Until now I had no problems with the MCG. But have you tried new batteries?
It could have run wild because you threatened to win...;-)

If I am mistaken, it must be caused by a horizon effect...

I cannot find none in my unit.

Too funny. I received my MCG this evening, and it took me 5 minutes to find the power adapter socket!

Well, I have the machine since a time, BUT I prefer always to use batteries so I did not bother to search nothing until today, when just for curiosity I tried ti get it. Miopic as i am, I simple did not see it until i was instructed by ICD where to look at.
In any case; i do not have the adaptor....
Perhaps I will try with any of the many I have of old comps, provided it deliver just 4.5 volts and not too much mA.

Fern,

A power adapter with 5V output which supplies at least 0.6A should do the trick. Positive polarity tip. This is a photo from my MCG adapter:

Hope that helps.

It was a battery problem. I was using some rechargeable units that I have since at least...10 years or so. Mmm, perhaps time to throw them.
Then I replaced them by simple alkaline new stuff and the machine works perfectly.
I will try the 1000mA adaptor

God have pity of me regards

I’m pleased to learn that it was only a weak rechargeable battery issue.
Personally, I use exclusively premium alkaline batteries because the manufacturers will repair or replace any device damaged by battery leakage.

John,

I've never heard of that before. Is this true for Energizer and Duracell batteries? If yes, how do you submit a claim?

Energizer Bunny regards...

Greetings Greg:

Back around '77, I received a nifty Blackjack (21) calculator with a nice bright LED display as a gift. The device wasn’t much larger than a scientific calculator of the same era, didn’t weigh very much, was easy to tote along while commuting, etc., though the LED display ate up batteries at an alarming rate. Long story short, I wound up installing some "bargain brand" batteries in the unit which leaked into the circuitry – relegating my vintage tech-toy to the trash bin.

Ever since then, I’ve learned my lesson and only use premium alkaline batteries, though am partial to Energizers.

I’ve yet to have to file a claim with them, but...

Better Safe Than Sorry Regards,
John
