Chess on TV and in Films
There is an episode of Columbo where Chess is featured. Can anyone think of any other TV Dramas or films where it does?
Were the positions shown ridiculous? Did a, supposed, strong player fall for a mate in 1?

This episode of Mission Impossible is epic too:

Chess in movies
There is a good book on the subject, "Chess in the Movies" by Bob Basalla. it needs an update, as it was published in 2005. i think he also covered TV.

I actually remember that one. I reckon you are thinking of this episode, The Most Dangerous Match (terrible quality but... there it is)Harvey Williamson wrote:There is an episode of Columbo where Chess is featured. Can anyone think of any other TV Dramas or films where it does?

There was the American NBC series Frasier, which was created as a spin-off of Cheers, which was the continuing the story of psychiatrist Frasier Crane.
There was an episode in season 3 where he could not beat his father in chess:

Plot summary:
"In this classic episode, Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) can't seem to understand why his father Martin (John Mahoney) can beat him in game after game of chess, despite the fact that Frasier is experienced in the game and believes he is much more intelligent than his father. Martin, though, has an answer: he developed his analytical and strategic skills in decades as a police detective."

We’ve done the (insert hobby or interest) in films and television thread on other forums, and it’s always a popular topic.
Columbo and Frasier are 2 of my favorite shows and I enjoyed these episodes immensely – thanks for sharing!
Here’s a snippet from the original series of Star Trek when only mainframes played chess:
Let’s go back to the future for Court Martial.
Celluloid Checkmate Regards,

No matter what and who, in these chess snippets always there is a mate in two or even one that was not seen by a GM or computer.Cyberchess wrote:We’ve done the (insert hobby or interest) in films and television thread on other forums, and it’s always a popular topic.
