Chemnitz, Germany 1 February 2013 — MEGWARE, the German specialist in the field of
supercomputing, has won a contract from the University of Bayreuth in Germany for the
production and supply of a new supercomputer. Intensive computer applications will run
using the Linux Cluster which will be delivered in Spring 2013. It is called `btrzx3´.
1.25 million euros are available for the HPC system which is based on AMD processors
of type AMD Opteron 6348. 9,696 processor cores are built into 402 nodes which are
linked with a fast QDR Infiniband network.

Opteron 6348: 705euro at ebay in 2016, 115W, 12cores, 2.8-3.4 GHz

Jonny with 2400 cores must have 200 processors, costing 141000 euros in 2016,
just only the processors. They are producing 23KW.

redoubling speed gives ~40 Elo-points, Jonny 7.00 has 2919 ELO, Komodo 9.42 has
3235 at CEGT on 1 core. In Leiden Jonny has 2400 cores, Komodo has 48, roughly 225 points Elo-advantage
for Jonny based on hardware. Still less than Komodo.

isn't blitz basically the same than using 24-times fewer cores ?
I mean, reflection time and used hardware should be equivalent

The naming is just in analogy to human chess.

Wouldn't it be better to play many Blitz-games in the available time
than just 10 normal games ? So to reduce the random/luck factor.

Not if you want the operators to survive the experience.

Also during longer games the programmers can chat and you notice problems with engines that you never see during 1000's of blitz games where you just look at overall scores and not at the games.
