Excalibur Ivan the Terrible

Post by Celadus »

I have just purchased IVAN on ebay for $30.00us which should arrive in about a week.

According to Schachcomputer info the Ivan program is the same as Excalibur Igor.
Comparing both boards I prefer the Ivan layout because the info. screen is at the bottom of the board which I believe will be easer to read.

I have the Excalibur Alexandra the Great chess board and the info screen is in the same position as Igor. Sometimes I am obliged to tip the board to see the info.
This is no big deal just a little irritating.
I purchased Ivan because I am impressed with Alexandra. The screen shows score, move, time etc. and the batteries last for ever.
A very robust machine.

Ivan is apparently stronger than Alexandra so I am looking forward to the challenge.

Does anyone have both Igor and Ivan? Any comments?

I have both and yes, Ivan is somewhat stronger than Alexandra, but not that much.
Both machines play around the 175 Elo mark, which is decent enough for a good game.
