DEBYUT-M

Post by IvenGO »

Hello, friends!

I would like to proudly present you russian chess computer from 1994 (see attached photos).

Its based on PC's programm Mirage by Vladimir Rybinkin - a participant of several WMCCCs and AEGON tournaments.

CPU: KP1810BM86 - a clone of Intel 8086
ROM: 8 x 2 = 16kb; RAM: 2 x 2 = 4kb
Pressing-sensory board and 4x7-segmental LCD

Playing levels: 3-5-10-15-30-45-60-90-120-150 minutes per 40 moves

Thanks for your attention!

very interesting .. i wasn't aware that this program have been used for a dedicated machine.
This is a very good program, which were based on SIBERIAN (if my source are ok ) , a program by Eugene Nalimov ( more known for his endgame table base).

you are veru lucky to get this machine

C'mon, put us out of our misery...what's it's playing strength?

Hi, I got this unit only yesterday, so today I just played several blitz-5min games myself against it; also I played several blitz-5min games vs Excalibur Grandmaster past week, and my feeling is that they are close. But we have to keep in mind that 8086 at 5Mhz is about equal perfomance to 6502 at only 2Mhz, so DEBYUT's hardware is quiet weak.
I'll do some test games at rapid time control this week against other computers. Probably, TurboKing will be its first opponent...

Congratulations IvenGO
That's a very nice find.

This sounds like it is probably one of the strongest all-Russian chess computers sold to the public. Are the chips all date stamped 1991?
The name seems to translate as Debut-M.
Would 'Made In RF' mean made in the Russian Federation?

All the best

Hi, thanks! Maybe "U" is more correct than "YU" - really not easy to say how its right for "acoustic translation" from russian to english.
Yes, RF means Russian Federation; this computer was produced in Moscow (during 1994) while ELECTRONIKA units were made in St.Peterburg (former Leningrad).

More info about:
Dismensions: 26 x 23 x 3,5 cm
Power supply: 9,5 V / 900mA

Ok, perhaps many of us (including me) have great expectations about its playing strength, but to be fair: its only 16kb ROM, old and slow CPU, software is poorly optimized from PC - I'm sure that factory engineers did this job themselves without Vladimir Rybinkin being invited to work at (there are some prooves about) - so do we really think that it can beat professionaly-made computers with long history from EU and NA ? I can only hope that it will not loose first match 0-10 and will be able to take 2-3points... I cant say about these 2 games "Enjoy!", but lets try not to become very angry of Debut's playing and just watch this competition calmly...

Hi IvenGo

As Mike said, great find and thanks for the games!

I notice that there is another one shown at the Soviet Digital Electronics Museum. http://www.leningrad.su/museum/show_calc.php?n=583

Hello, thanks!

Yes, I know about that one in museum. Actually, I was also able to buy it but seller wanted too much money, so I'd found another one for lower price...
