Hope it will be not one of those flick where the hero or heroin look at a board and see a mate in two moves that the GM did not see....

Hi Fern,

No, this is a movie based on the book with the same name.
And that book tells the story of a young girl from the streets of rural Uganda, who is now the women chess champion of Uganda.

Guess you wanted it to be a chilean girl regards,
Paul

Do not take my previous post as a mark of disrespect for Uganda, I am just making use of a lyrical turn of phrase. Uganda is not a country we know as a source of chess players, less in the realm of females, which are less interested in chess than men in any country of the world.

If you would just read a little more, you would have found that she scored a women candidate master result in the international chess olympics that just ended a few days ago.

Ok! I think now of becoming a transgender, maybe I can become a master too :-P

I read she scored 50%: +3, =3 and -3.
So I guess her rating will become higher.

Just thought I'd post the FIDE requirements for each of the FIDE Women's Titles below. It should be noted that GM Judit Polgar feels that these titles are demeaning to women, never competed in a women's tournament, and there is a movement spearheaded by Barbara Jepson to eliminate these titles.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIDE_titl ... 27s_titles

Keep 'em Barefoot, Pregnant, and FIDE Titled Regards,
John
