I am there running the VIP room commentary. I just had Dinner with Vishy and Gajewski. Great Thai Food! I will try and post some pictures etc.. from the event and also hopefully a link that HCE users and others can use for live pgn updates.

This is where we had Dinner http://esarnkheaw.com/

Looks like an authentic Thai place Harvey! I've been to the shopping mall down the street from there (when I forgot to pack dress socks on a business trip - LOL!).

Is the link available yet?

Too bad Magnus is not playing this year...

Thanx for these links Harvey!
Curiously enough the dutch newsbulletins do not even mention that this tournament is going on, even though our top player Anish Giri is playing in it...?!

Best regards,
Paul

Very strange particularly as this tournament also decides the overall winner of the Grand Prix

This is a great engine test position from today at the classic. How long does it take your engine to find the winning move?

Very good move is Nc6 (Stockifish 8 analyze for 1s), but victory is far from this move.

Hi,

I set this position up on PicoChess running on a RPi3 using a test compile of Stockfish8:

After 1 hour and a 34 ply search, Nc6 was showing as the best move with an equal eval

I forced Pico to play Nf5 as played in the game, at 28 plies Pico suggests Bxf5 as equal

Then I forced Pico to play Rb8 as played in the game, at 28 plies Pico suggests Nxf6+ with a +2.05 eval, as played in the game. Again at 28 ply, Pico suggests Qxf6 with a -2.00, as played in the game. Pico then suggests Nxd6+ at +2.01.

So I forced Pico to play Rxd6 as played in the game, but after Be6 as played, whites eval was 0.99 and no quick win obvious .....

Cheers,

Al.
