Here is the Round 1 game between RevelationIIHiarcs14.1 and Resurrection Ruffian

For a lot of the game Ruffian had a tiny positional edge, but then the game changed into Hiarcs' favor as a result of a strongly advanced center pawn and very active Queen.

[fen]4r3/4P1k1/1p6/p2q4/5p1Q/1bR4P/5PP1/6K1 w - - 0 69[/fen]

Hiarcs missed its chance for glory in the above position. Play 69. Qxf4! and the game would have been all over even though Ruffian enjoys a Bishop for a Pawn advantage.

It is strange as both Ruffian and obviously Hiarcs saw the move 69. Qg4+ as the best move in this position which really just draws. Even the move 69. Rf3 would probably have been a winning move in the above position.

Anyway a few moves later Hiarcs got greedy....

[fen]4r3/2Qqk3/1p6/p7/8/1bR4P/5PP1/6K1 w - - 0 72[/fen]

Here Hiarcs figures on exchanging the Queen and take the Bishop and voila! Hiarcs is a pawn up in a Rook and pawn ending!

But what a mistake that really was!

[fen]4r3/8/1pk5/p7/8/1R5P/5PP1/6K1 w - - 0 74[/fen]

There can only be one winner in this position and it wasn't Hiarcs! :P

The black pawns and King are just too advanced for white to be able to stop them.

Moral of the story is that it is not always wise to simplify into a material advantage endgame!

Well we all needed Hiarcs to lose another game... Now someone just needs to put Aristarch in its place to blow this tournament wide open again!! 8)

Best regards
Nick

Round 9, game 2nd

Post by mipo69 »

The game RevelationII Hieracs 14.1 vs Atlanta was a quick one for both. Advantages on side of Revelation had been developed more and more.
Even Atlanta was announcing his end within 6 moves:

Hi,

on Friday I made a second home session and played the

game 8-6 Atlanta/MichaelL-P - London68030/MichaelL

which was the last of London68030 and it lost again...

Out of 11 games London68030 did not win one single game, made 3 draws and lost 8 games - bad result for this chess computer!

Hi,

Friday evening I played with Walter the

game 4-2 Reflection Vancouver-ELO2400?-Walter-UTC+2h - RevelationIIHiarcs14.1-ELO2340-MichaelL-UTC+2h

a second time - we though we didn't play this game before, but we did already on May 9th. :?

My plan was to play the game 2-4 Reflection Vancouver-ELO2400?-Walter-UTC+2h - Atlanta-ELO2270-MichaelP-UTC+2h, but I mixed it.... - too many chess computers around... :P

Sorry about that! Of course we do not count the game for the tournament, that would be bad for Reflection Vancouver because this time RevIIHiarcs14.1 won!!

Hi all,

Round 9 Game 4 Helge & his Montreux v Me & my Rev2 London ended in a 4 hr, weird, long winded 123 move draw. Earlier my London over stretched and got its knight trapped, so ended up losing the knight for a pawn then it looked as tho it was going to win with its connected passed pawns but after a horrific blunder, lost all its pawns and Bishop then ended up With a K v KBN, but the Montreux failed to find a mate within the 50 move rule.

Cheers,

Al.
