Hi Everyone

Post by gerry »

Hello all

Not sure how I managed to miss this form. What a wealth of information.

I've been fascinated with dedicated chess computers since the 80s. I wouldn't claim to be a collector because I never own more than 4 or 5 at any one time. I have a particular interest in the robotic machines and have owned a number of different types over the years.

I also love the travel machines, with the Novag Micro being my all time favorite.

What I have at the moment:

1. Milton Bradley Phantom
2. Saitek Corona
3. Intercontinental Traveler (the first one I ever had)

My favourite of all time has to be the Corona (which I bought from Dixons in the UK in 1991). Sadly, a reed contact popped the other night and it was whilst searching for info on the problem that I found this place.

Excellent, thank you for that. I note some of the pictures are missing, but I get the gist from the text. Worryingly, I can still hear the reed contacting when I put a piece in it, so I'm now wondering if it's something worse. Or is it normal to still hear the reed?

Hi Gerry,

Welcome on this forum. Maybe we can tempt you to collect some more chess computers! ;-). For instance the Saitek Blitz may be of interest for you?!

If you like to play the Corona, I guess you can beat it now and then. That means you have a respectable playing strength!

Best regards,
Paul

I Paul, I did actually own a Blitz back in the day. It malfunctioned and I got rid of it years later via eBay. I will definitely be buying at least a couple more vintage machines. Decisions, decisions. :)
