Universal limiter for chess engines

Post by Volodymyr »

Hi all,
Now there are a lot of strong chess engines + 2800 or even +3200.
How to play against these engines?Anti-computer strategy, closed positions?
And the score is 50 games and 1 triumphant draw.
I do not play this way and I do not recommend playing.
I saw the topic on http://talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=65805 , I do not have an account on this site.
I will answer here.
If there is no setting of Limit Strength,
use the BES program http://mion.faireal.net/BES/
This program will weakened any chess engine.
This is practically a slow processor emulation.
You can use from 99% to 0.1% of the processor power.
Also the possibility of autorun.
Very good free program.

Hi Volodymyr

setting up an account on Talkchess is free as it is here
replying to threads from one forum on another forum is not an efficient or effective way to have a conversation
Harvey Williamson who is an administrator on this forum is also a moderator on the talkchess forum
i am sure you will enjoy a lively debate there and personal attacks will be carefully moderated

Steve

Hi Steve
I understand it looks stupid,
I created accounts on talkches twice. There was no activation.
I did not receive a reply to messages. It's very difficult.
Talkchess is closed in fact for beginners.
Here I had absolutely no problems.

Hi,

yes BES is a jewell. Other uses you may think about:
- run an engines tournament while saving some CPU to perform other tasks; assuming you have not many cores. Simply throttle both opposed engines with the same CPU target to keep the game evenly fair, and enjoy the remaining CPU bandwidth
- tune emulators to run at realistic speed, if they do not natively provide such ability
- reduce overheating while running an engines tournament during hot summer time

About getting an account, I suggest to try another mail address. I had an issue for weeks (maybe months, I do not remind this accurately) to get my account activated here (yes, Hiarcs forum). Everything went fine & in a very short time when I had the idea to create another account request with another webmail linked to it. Please be aware I am not complaining, just sharing my experience :)

Kind regards,
Tibono2 (because Tibono has never been activated....)
