Halloween '18 Special: Low Performer Tournament

Post by blaubaer »

Driving home from the Kaufbeuren 2018 Tournament, Helge and me we had a great idea (as we thought :P):

We would like to play with our weakest chess computer a Low Performer Chess Computer Tournament.

Allowed are chess computer below an ELO of 1000. This list could help to find one. If you don't have any in your collection, look at eBay; here you can find them for low Budget.

The less points you make, the higher the chance to win this Tournament. Tournament start could be beginning of December or Januar 1st next year.

What do you think? Are you interested?

Regards, Michael

So the computer with the lowest score wins?
sound like a tournament I could win playing as myself with no computer
:P

Should be a fun tournament to follow
I will predict that CompuChess I wins (if its entered)

this reminds me of a game I played against one of Marks earliest version of Hiarcs when the forum here first went online in 2007..
I operated the CC1 and Mark had to dig up some old PC to operate Hiarcs
we reached a position where both of us had a mate in one and both computers made move after move...EXCEPT the mating move
was very funny
eventually Hiarcs mated the CC1 but it took a good dozen moves before it found the mate

Bottom Dwellers Regards
Steve

I think you should join this tournament! I know you dislike long periods of commitment because of work. Perhaps Michael could do this over a weekend or couple of weekends?

Best regards

Thanks Nick but the first of the year is my busiest time of year
nights and Saturdays...etc..etc..
I slog along like that until tax season ends(mid-April)
when I do get home ..I could just imagine my wife's reaction if I then sit down and play online chess for what little face time with her i have left
I would soon be coming home to her ...

The solution for your troubles are in my hands. For a very discreet sum I can send one of my Serbian bodyguards and he will invite your wife to a walk.
After a week you can report to the NYPD the disapparition of her.

Definitive fix regards

Hi,
spacious_mind wrote:OK I will play.
@Nick: That was my hope and my expectation too.... :P Which could be your chess computer?
spacious_mind wrote: Perhaps Michael could do this over a weekend or couple of weekends?
@All: Could be an option...
Steve B wrote:Entering Tournament Regards Steve
@Steve: Means you'll play the tournament?

Edit: I just tested my Novag MKI - I never did that before...It has a strange concept of operation - until now, I'm not sure if it works correctly...

Hello everybody,

I'd be in this weird tournament even though my wife will give me the evil eye.
I would participate with the strong chess master MK II (if it works).

Cheers

I wonder If I can enter the tourn with my famous Moron program which is made with two lines in basic language:

10: print "Hi"
20: goto 30
30: print "I resign"

I am sure I will win.

Betting for the best horse regards

Ok. Serbian on the way. Business will be ready tomorrow. Wait before selling your wife cloth. Now it could be suspicious

Hi Michael,

great idea, I would enjoy playing this tournament!
With Boris, but I can switch to a few others if anyone would have expected to enter with the same choice.

Any thoughts to share about the planned playing level setting?

About Novag MK1: a fair chance for a win, but a bit uneasy to operate! Setting it to play as white is tricky but indeed it can.

Hi all,

Replying from the Independence of the Seas cruise ship.....

I don’t think I have anything weak enough except maybe ‘Boris is King’ and that’s already taken. I don’t have a CC1 nor any little portables. I’ll have a look online on when I return ..
